08 Mar To Women, with Love.
The first woman I knew was my mother.
The first word that comes to mind is strength
And strength, again.
So here’s to women,
Here’s to women who strive to make the most of their lives
To women who are making impact in their own little (big) way
To women who embody dignity and grace and beauty and wisdom
To women who have embraced their “womanity”
To women who lend their voice
To the cause of women
As we strive to take our place and soar in this world
To women who have vision for a greater tomorrow
To the women who are finding their feet
To women who are seeking the way to their dreams
To women who are overwhelmed by the responsibilities and expectations of being a woman
To the women who have refused to conform to societies standards
To women who have set their own standards and refused to be limited
To women who have;
a helping hand, ready
a kind smile, steady
To the mothers
To the sisters
To the friends
To the ones who have been crushed, broken, discouraged
To the ones who have healed, been mended & are standing
To the ones who are lost, seeking, searching
To the ones who have been found, are learning & knowing
To the ones who were told they could not and yet did
To the ones who pave the way for young girls to soar
I celebrate you
Your strength; unbeaten
Your wisdom; unheard of
Your grace; unprecedented
Your beauty; unusual
Your strength, again!
To the Oprah Winfrey’s, Michelle’s Obama’s, Tara Fela Durotoye’s & Mo Abudu’s who inspire me to greatness
To the Mama Chi’s who have turned nothing into something
To The Sisi Yemi’s making the most of an unusual path
To the Jumoke Adenowo’s full of wisdom and it’s results
To the Genevieve Nnaji’s, the Ibukun Awosika’s, the Uche Pedro’s & the Ty Bello’s . . .
To my mother who knows her place and value in this world and has instilled into me the same sure, gentle knowledge.
The ones who are their own cheerleaders
The ones who don’t get the rounds of applause they deserve
To the ones who double as breadwinner & help meet
To the ones who we don’t get to hear about
To mama Iya who works from 3am to 9pm just to make a living
To Madam Funbi who has succeeded in building an empire for herself
To Aunty Ifeoma who wakes & grinds weekly, let’s her hair down on weekends and lifts her hands to worship her maker everyday!
To career women, business women, creative women, all women
To wisdom, to grace, to dignity, to strength!
You are light
You are love
You are a breath
Of fresh air
You will conquer
You will shine
You will rise
You must choose to
You are greatness
It’s international Women’s day today! And personally I am celebrating myself & every woman who has impacted my life. I celebrate women all over the world who are doing this thing called life and winning at it.
Regardless of what society says, we will flourish. We will change the norm and we will stand!
Walk boldly in the direction of your dreams, holding on to God and his word! Find your voice and use it, set your goals and achieve it, seek your purpose and fulfill it. Don’t let anything stop you.
Happy International Women’s Day!
